University of Maine at Machias Description:
The University of Maine at Machias sits on a 43-acre campus along the Machias River. Maine's rocky coast is just a few miles away. UMM is a public liberal arts college with a focus on what they call the "environmental liberal arts." UMM's curriculum reflects the school's coastal location and commitment to sustainability. All first-year students participate in a series of seminar courses, "The Maine Coastal Odyssey," that explore the region's resources and communities. Academics at UMM are supported by a healthy 12 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 17. The university has a wide range of student clubs and organizations including a fraternity and sorority system. In athletics, the University of Maine at Machais Clippers compete in the Yankee Small College Conference, part of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. The college fields four men's and four women's intercollegiate sports.
