Military Police are military personnel that fulfill a law enforcement role. The precise role and jurisdiction of military police varies by country.

In the United States, each branch of the military has its own law enforcement unit which fulfills roles that include law and order, area security, internment/resettlement, intelligence, and mobility support operations:

  • US Army: Military Police Corps
  • US Navy: Masters-at-Arms Branch (aided by Shore Patrol personnel)
  • US Marine Corps: Provost Marshal's Office
  • US Air Force: Air Force Security Forces (formerly Security Police & Air Police

    Criminal investigations in the US military are carried out by separate organizations such as:

  • US Army: United States Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID)
  • US Navy & Marine Corps: Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS)
