Definition:

The Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) is the legal component of each branch of the US military. Lawyers assigned to JAG serve in a variety of legal roles including military, contracting, administrative, international, and criminal law. Known as judge advocates, these officers also provide legal advice to the command to which they are assigned. In criminal matters, JAG lawyers serve as the prosecutor and defense during courts-martial.
