Definition:
A curtain or curtain wall is a wall built to connect two bastions of a castle or fortress. As part of a castle, curtain walls were massive, tall constructions which were difficult to breach. With the evolution of fortifications, curtains were made lower and were protected from direct assault by outworks such as ravelins.
