A native of nearby Chester County, PA, Brigadier General Anthony Wayne led the Pennsylvania Line (1st & 2nd Pennsylvania Brigades) of the Continental Army. A veteran of the failed invasion of Canada, Wayne fought with distinction at Brandywine and Germantown, before leading a large foraging raid to New Jersey during the Valley Forge encampment. The following summer, he played a key role at the Battle of Monmouth before earning further honors for his capture of the British base at Stony Point, NY. Known as a bold and aggressive commander, Wayne took part in the 1781 Yorktown Campaign before seeing further service in the South until the end of the war. Recalled to duty in the 1790s, he defeated a Native American alliance at the Battle of Fallen Timbers.
