Seven Years' War: Prussians Beaten at Domstadtl!
June 30, 1758 - A Prussian supply convoy is defeated by the Austrians at the Battle of Domstadtl. Pushing into Moravia in 1758, Frederick the Great (right) laid siege to the town of Olomouc with the goal of drawing the Austrian army into battle. After a month-long siege, his men were able to open two gaps in the walls, but lacked the supplies to launch an assault. Sending back to Prussia, Frederick requested a large convoy of ammunition, provisions, and reinforcements. Marching south under the command of Colonel Wilhelm von Mosel, the convoy was attacked on June 28 by Austrian forces led by Maj .Gen. Ernst Gideon von Laudon at Guntramovice. Beating off the Austrians, the Prussians were reinforced by troops under Lt. Gen. Hans Joachim von Zieten. Pressing on, they again encountered the Austrians two days later. Reinforced by Gen. Joseph von Siskovits, von Laudon was able to rout the Prussians and prevent the supplies from reaching Olomouc. As result of the defeat, Frederick was forced to retreat back to Bohemia.
