England: The Battle of Shrewsbury

Saturday July 21, 2007

July 21, 1403 - The Royalist forces of King Henry IV (left) of England defeat a rebel army at the Battle of Shrewsbury. Feeling slighted by the king after helping install him on the throne, the powerful Percy family rose up and built an army to challenge the royal authority. Meeting at Shrewsbury, the rebel army, led by Sir Henry "Hotspur" Percy, was defeated by King Henry IV and his forces in a bloody battle. This article provides an overview of the fight, as well as background on how it all came about.
