July 1, 1863 - At Gettysburg, PA the Army of the Potomac and the Army of Northern Virginia begin the Battle of Gettysburg. The largest and bloodiest battle ever fought in North America, the engagement would end in a decisive victory for Maj. Gen. George G. Meade (left) and the Union. Coupled with Maj. Gen. Ulysses S.
