Civil War: War in the West, 1861-1863
We return to the Civil War with this article that focuses on the first two years of fighting in the West. Unlike the Eastern Theater, the war in the West was dominated by the Union, with famed leaders such as Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, and Philip H. Sheridan quickly emerging. Follow the action from Forts Henry & Donelson, Shiloh, and the capture of New Orleans (left) to the bloody battles at Perryville and Stones River.
